My Birthday Weekend.

This weekend My Husband and I went away for My Birthday, we had a great time soaking up the sun and walking on the beach.

Happy birthday to me!

Sunday was our last day in Santa Barbara, so we headed out early for breakfast. The little town had some really great doors and windows and a little down the street was this was a really cool old welding yard full of rusty things.

we then went to visit the Santa Barbra Mission

After the mission we went back to town to eat lunch before we headed home...
and as birthday luck would have it there was a delightful little antique shop that we came across
I really thought I found the thing that made it the perfect day when my hands found
this little book
small book from 1806

from 1806... my heart was very full!

then I found a great little bag full of hand made laces and this old wooden Sieve Pestle.

There was a little squeal of delight when I found some Victorian jet trim along side a vintage mother of pearl buckle. The perfectly worn leather key holder in my favorite shade of blue really made me smile and say to my self "wow it really is my birthday!"

I was all ready to cheek out... I held all my goodies in my arms as I made my way to the check out counter only to spy in a glass case on the bottom shelf this box... in the very shame shade as my living room walls....

White Featherweight Box

My heart started to beat a little faster... I bent over... my eyes started to widen... I have never seen a white featherweight in person only online and I really did not need one as I already own two featherweight sewing machines (both black) but this little white one was to perfect for words! not a mark on her and in perfect working condition! I told myself "you do not need this!" My husband saw the wild look in my eyes as I walked to the counter, I was in total control I was going to buy what was in my arms but then the words came out of my mouth "do you think the dealer will come down in price?" and the counter clerk said "he is right behind you" I turned and offered him much less then his already fair price but he was in agreement and I said
"I will take it!"

my new toy!

so here she is the new girl in town, she is like a cool breeze in my studio and she sews like a dream and she is only a few years younger then me. White Featherweights were distributed in the U.S. between 1968 and 1970 and marked the end of production of these small but powerful sewing machines that I adore!

Savored & Lived

It starts quite simply really....
the idea oftentimes comes from a random pile in my studio...
a blur...
then all at once...

Inspiration!

inspiration

Then somehow my mood will take over...
for the most part my personality is calm and reserved however
there has always been a line of chaos in my life...
lava hidden underground if you will.
a fire in me...
Dare I say it?

Passion

"beloved its over" (now shall devoited be)

When I create all of me somehow surfaces, there is no room to hold back when I find myself fully engaged in the creative process. This engagement is after all the fuel that keeps me creating.
If my art has showed me only one thing about myself it would be that I want to be fully present in the moments of my life.

"beloved its over" (now shall devoited be)

Life is to be savored...
Life is to be lived...
I have found that as each year passes more layers are added.
we unfold into who we truly are.
Learning when to grow and when to let go is after all the same for both art and life.
Its all in the process!

The Art Of Procrastination

A year from now you may wish you had started today.
~Karen Lamb

I have found my way back into my studio this past week,
working on a few publication deadlines.

Hibiscus dyed

This little pile of dyed pink loveliness is a result of using dried Hibiscus.

Last peek...

and here is a small peek of a project in the lay out stage before I start the sewing and attaching.
I tend to put off working on projects till the last minute, however once I get working I really do enjoy the process so much I just can not help but ask myself
"why do I always put it off till the last minute?"
when I fully know The best way to get something done is to begin.
I will keep these words in mind a little more:

You may delay, but time will not.
~Benjamin Franklin

One more bit of news in the March/April
you will find my poetry scarfs and little about my process and meaning behind them ~

Tomorrow is often the busiest day of the week.

adorn me

The night before I left for Houston I knew I was coming down with something...
on the air plain it was evident this I was more then just a little sick. I arrived the day before and made a Bea line to bed! every second not teaching was spent in this bed.

I made it out once to go out for a few supply's that I needed teach my class. As Luck had it each day I was able to pull myself together and teach. My students were a joy! they supported me and were understanding of my sickness. The hard part for me when teaching sick is my fear that I will get my students sick (I hope you are all well!) every one made some amazing things sadly I was did not have the energy to take any photos to share.

Here you have my view of Houston from my bed...

No out on the town dinning for me it was room service the whole time!

This was my last night in Houston and here you have a small group of us on vendor night
From left to right is me, Amy Hanna, Pam Garrison, Stephanie Rubiano, and Diana Frey.
Adorn me was a great success! Big Thanks to Linda for putting on yet one more great advent!

I arrived home on Saturday and Yesterday was my first real day out of bed and today I find my self not 100% but on my way back to recovery.
Truly there is no place like home!
